Wagamama - Old Broad Street
Client: Greycoat
Location: City of London
Project Scope: Restaurant
Project Status: Complete

Post the IRA destruction to Bishopsgate and the Natwest Tower, as it was then known, a major overhaul to the City circulation was underway including the removal of many high level walkways.

As part of a programme of refurbishment to the Tower 42 Estate buildings, the Wagamama infill building replaced an empty hard landscape and a windswept series of water features.

With a limited number of points on which to bear load, the notion of a cantilevered ladder frame to provide the main linear restaurant space was derived directly from the structural requirements, a desire to form a contemporary aesthetic and a building with a very large canopy to protect from the tower down draughts.
